Life is Cool! allows guests and school children alike to learn about organ donation, meet recipients and understand one of the greatest gifts we can share.  This event is specially designed for school field trips!

 

Lung Learning & Have a Heart

Listen to your heart and learn how Lutheran Hospital works with transplant patients.  Learn about the different equipment used for heart transplants.  Students will also be able to touch an animal lung and observe the effects of smoking on lungs while at this station.

 

It’s All About The Eyes

The Indiana Lions Eye Bank will have model of the human eye.  This will show how diseases affect the eye and how they work to help people see with cornea transplants.

 

ORGAN Bingo

Discover what is involved with organ donations and transplants as you play bingo with key words related to these topics.

 

Body Parts Bean Bag Toss

Visitors will be given bean bags of various organs.  They will then toss it through the person, aiming for the correct location of the organ in the body.

 

Let’s Talk Tissue

Observe tissue samples and learn what types of tissue can be donated while visiting this station. There will also be an organ and tissue matching game here.

 

The Kidney Corner

Learn how much fluid a kidney can filter in one hour.  Visitors can also touch a real kidney and examine a dialysis machine as they learn about this organ.

 

Mini-Learning Sessions/Demonstrations

Students will learn more about transplants and donations in these presentations.  Age appropriate sessions will be scheduled for groups.  Sessions include heart transplants, dialysis equipment, donor dolls and transplants, and cow eye anatomy.

 

All visitors will receive a prize bag with a variety of materials from the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization and other participating agencies.
