Stock Class LEGO Restricted Parts Issues and Guidelines

A Stock Sumo-Wrestling LEGO robot should only use the parts from a single RCX or NXT kit. More specifically, these should be robots built from a single LEGO MindStorms Invention Set (RCX) or Robo-Lab kit; OR the LEGO® MindStorms® NXT or LEGO® MindStorms® Education Base Set. This year, we are going to work with the assumption that, in Sumo Wrestling, RCX and NXT are fairly evenly matched.

The critical issue, for insuring a fair and competitive game, is to guarantee that the important elements are the same with all competitors. Below is the list of “critical parts,” parts that will be checked during registration, in addition to the weight limit. No more than what is listed below may be used on any robot entry (besides the “less than critical parts”).  Click here for a large pdf version of the Invention Set 2.0 set of parts, and here for the NXT parts for a better visual comparison of parts.
