Make Your Trip Easy!

To ensure a high-quality educational experience when your group visits the science center, we suggest you consider the following:

 

How

Help Us Help You

To make the registration processes proceed quickly and efficiently please have the following information available:

  • Teacher’s name

  • School name, address, phone number

  • 3 possible field trip dates

  • Field trip times desired

  • Grade level(s)

  • Estimated number of students, teachers and chaperones (we require a 1:8 ratio of adults to students)

  • Any special programs you would like

  • Eating area reservations

  • Special needs

Please leave name, phone number, the best time to reach you and the Registrar will return your call.

 

Arrival

Upon arrival, one teacher should proceed to the Admissions Desk.  Students should remain on the bus for an orientation by our staff.  Please bring your confirmation letter in case of last-minute questions. 

 

School Tour Hours

Tuesday – Friday

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 

Special arrangements can be made for alternate tour hours when registering.

 

School Group Admissions

Based on a minimum group of 15 or more students

Student Fee                             $4.00

Lab Fee (if requested)              $1.50

1 Teacher per class                  Free

1 Chaperone per 8 students*     Free

School Bus Drivers                  Free 

*Pre-Kindergarten has a 1:5 ratio. (Any additional chaperones over the required ratio pay $4.00.)

 

Standard Visit

A standard visit lasts a maximum of 2.5 hours and includes the following:

  • A 20 minute demonstration in the Demonstration Theater

  • Free use of the Science Central Decks and guides to create a study trip with advanced request (see listings)

  • Free entry to the Traveling Exhibit Gallery when an exhibit is featured.

  • Optional labs for your study trip at an extra fee per student.

Confirmations

A confirmation letter is sent 2-4 weeks prior to your field trip date.  Please bring it with you when you visit.

 

Reservation Changes

Please allow 2 weeks for cancellations.  Cancellations with less notice incur a $40 administrative fee.  Weather-related cancellations are the exception and will be rescheduled at no extra charge.  For any change in the group size of more than 5 students or for changes in a lab request, please contact us as soon as possible, as staffing requirements and preparation depends on group size.

 

Storage/Lunch Information

The Lower Level of Science Central has an eating area along with storage for coats and lunches.  No food is served but vending machines with snacks and drinks are available.  You may bring your own lunches with prior reservation. This request must be made when you register.  Lunch times will be scheduled for you.  Space is limited.

Chaperones

Chaperones can be a great asset to your field trip, outside of just keeping an eye on the students. Here are some ideas that you might like to use with your chaperones, to make the most of your trip.
