Summer Camps 2008
School may be out, but don’t turn your brain off just yet! You will want it for your summer of FUN and learning at Science Central! But, don’t worry: we learn without books and lectures here: We’re all about fun!

Lotions, Potions & Scientific Notions June 16-20 Cook up some bubble trouble! Make your own slime one day and your own ice-cream the next. This camp is the messy kid’s dream, full of blending, mixing and measuring. Learn why some potions bubble and others turn to slime. At the end of the week, find out what happens when you super-freeze everyday items in liquid nitrogen!
Camp Cosmos June 23-27 It’s all about the universe this week. Your young astronomer will gaze into the universe using our Digital STARLAB and enjoy many out-of-this-world, hands-on activities.
Wet Water Science July 14-18 The weather may be hot outside, but when you come to Science Central you will get a cool splash of science! Explore the science behind the wet world of water. Use our giant water balloon sling shot to test physics, create your own miniature ocean to take home and try many more fun activities during this exciting week of camp.
Nature’s Wild Ways July 28-August 1 Whoo, hoot! Study nature’s nocturnal animals. Investigate the remains of an owl’s supper. Follow footprints to learn the movement patterns of species in action.Can You Dig It? - August 11-15 Come find out what real archaeologists and paleontologists do through hands-on activities. Use your detective-like skills and piece together the fossil clues of mighty pre-historic predators. Find out how archaeologists discover what other civilizations were like using artifacts. You will even get to participate in a dig here at Science Central!

Inventions & Robotics June 9-13 Let out the inventor in you!! Take apart machines to find out what makes them run. Learn about gears, circuits, and magnetism. Explore the expanding world of robotics while you build your very own robot to take home. Finish the week with a robot competition!
CSI Detective Camp July 21-25 Use science to solve mysteries!!!! Become a CSI detective for a week of unusual baffling mysteries using tools that forensic scientists use to unravel real-life mysteries.
Start Your Engines August 4-8 One of our most popular camps!!!! Build your own Tamiya Mini-4WD racecar, which you get to keep! Change variables to increase your lap speed and learn the physics behind racecar driving. Build a go-cart as a team, which will be driven through an obstacle course.

Introduction to LEGO Robotics Become a part of the team! Using basic principles of engineering and computer programming, campers will cooperate to design, build and program a robot. Then, they'll modify their creations to perform different tasks and battle off in several competitions. Campers do not get to keep the robot.
June 16-20: Ages: 10 to 13, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
July 7-11:
Ages: 10 to 13, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m
Advanced LEGO Robotics Based on the FIRST LEGO League, this is an advanced LEGO Robotics camp with a focus on more sophisticated programming and more complex problem-solving. Campers will work in teams to program LEGO robots to manipulate solar panels, oil barrels, build a dam and much more. Previous experience with LEGO robots is suggested. Campers do not get to keep the robot.
July 21-July 25: Ages: 10 to 13, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Ages: 9 to 11, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Foamy, Fizzy Science - June 9 Put on your goggles and prepare for a day full of chemistry fun! Your young scientist will experience safe chemistry experiments designed to spark wonder and imagination. Vroom, Vroom, Vroom - June 10 Explore the Science of Transportation in this Small Fry camp. We will make cars, boats and much more as we zoom into science and fun. Games Galore - June 11 Examine the math and science in fun everyday games. Your small fry will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they are learning. Sun, Stars & The Solar System - June 12 Look beyond the Earth into the sky. We will learn about our Sun, stars and planets. Rocks and Rolls - June 13 Be a junior geologist as we dig into rocks and learn about the forces that shape our planet. Curious George will make a visit today, as well! Can you Dig it? - July 7Sift through sands to discover Indiana's past as a junior archaeologist. Soil & Seed - July 8 This camp will really grow on you as we plant seeds, dissect plants and discover why we need green! Up, Up & Away - July 9 Fly up, zoom down and hover as we examine machines and animals that go up, up and away. Creepy Crawly Creatures - July 10 Observe and handle creepy crawly creatures. You’ll soon see they’re not so creepy after all!! Sandy Shores - July 11 Discover the plants and animals that thrive in lakes and oceans through hands-on activities and by visiting our very own tidal pool. Sense-sational Science - August 4 Learn about your senses through hands-on experiments. Dynamite Dinosaurs - August 5 Your kids will love this camp as they discover what scientists know about the fantastic beasts from the past. Science on the Menu - August 6 We’re cooking up a good time in this camp. We will make cupcakes to take home and learn about feeding our body healthy snacks. Gears and Gizmos - August 7 Learn about simple machines in this simply wonderful camp all about building and moving. All About Animals - August 8 Get a glimpse of the wonderful world of animals and discover what animals live in our Swap Shop.

One Snack Provided; Bring Your Own Lunch every day. SUMMER SCIENCE SAMPLER Join us this week as we explore everything from astronauts to zoologists. You’re sure to find a topic that satisfies your budding scientist during this camp. This camp has been designed especially for students with special needs.Maximum number—20 campers. Low camper-to-counselor ratios will be maintained.Cost: $250, $225 for Members Middle School Camps June 16-20, July 7-11, July 28-August 1 Ages: 11 to 15 Time: 9 am to 4 pm. SUMMER SURVIVOR CAMP Is your middle-school student getting bored with summer vacation? We have the solution! This camp is facilitated by a counselor trained to motivate. Your camper will see Science Central behind the scenes. Learn to run the exhibits, "shock" visitors with the Static Electricity Demonstation, and much more. This camp is designed to be guided by your camper's interests.

Come spend the night in our Snoozeum where the only things coming alive are fun, imagination and science. Campers will enjoy having a private night at the museum, participating in an optional activity, eating pizza, watching a movie and then snoozing among the exhibits. Breakfast will be served before camp the next day. Pre-registration is required.
