Facilities Manager




Science Central, a hands-on science center (physical, natural and applied sciences), located within a large historical building, is currently hiring an organized, creative and skilled exhibits/facilities/building/equipment technician.

Duties will include:

  • turn-on and off exhibits and systems at the beginning and end of each day
  • troubleshoot, repair, clean, fabricate and install permanent and temporary interactive exhibits, and research new exhibits
  • daily functioning and maintenance of the building, grounds, facilities, and its components
  • housekeeping and cleanliness of the exhibits, galleries, building and grounds
  • set-up, tear-down and cleaning for special events and programs
  • monitoring, and ordering of supplies, equipment and materials

REQUIRED SKILLS:  time- and detail-oriented; self-motivated; communicative and team-oriented; comfortable in a fast-paced environment; sense of humor; creative problem-solver; strong hand tool and shop tool skills; experience with facilities (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.) and/or construction projects preferred; knowledge of electronics, cabinetry, materials (woods, metals, plastics, etc.), and cleaning supplies; ability to use or learn to use a forklift preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  frequent standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, climbing, balancing, pushing, and heavy lifting/moving (large exhibits, crates, machines, etc.); exposure to high and low temperatures, and outside weather conditions; exposure to loud sounds, heights and ladders, and moving mechanical parts; must be able to lift  minimum of 75 lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience in building maintenance, construction, fabrication shop, technical trade, etc.; must be comfortable working in a science-related organization; high visibility in a public facility, so must be friendly and outgoing; able to learn and maintain the exhibits database and thermostat software systems; comfortable with Microsoft Office programs; ability to drive and valid Driver’s License preferred; successful completion of Criminal Background Check.

SCHEDULE:  Full-time; schedule will include weekdays, weekends and some evenings

SALARY:  $30,000/year salary; non-exempt position; full benefits including medical, dental, etc.; generous paid time off
