Explanation:
The machine is sometimes called an Ascending Arc. The arc, or spark, is created when high voltage is applied to the electrode. The spark is very hot, which warms the air and produces light and sound.
Application:
The sparks are produced in rapid succession, rather than a continuous flow of electricity. These machines are often seen in old science fiction movies. A car spark plug is a smaller version.
