TOTS

TOTS, short for “Today’s Observers, Tomorrow’s Scientists,” is our program for children ages 3 to 6. Each session features engaging, age-appropriate activities designed to introduce young learners to the world of STEM.

Oct. 7th or Oct. 14th

  • Topic: Engineering – “Make a Splash!”
  • Explore how water moves, changes, and flows. Build, test, and make a splash with hands-on engineering fun!
  • Book: Everything Goes by Sea by Brian Biggs

Nov. 4th or Nov. 11th

  • Topic: Recycling – “From Trash to Treasure”
  • Look at everyday trash in a brand-new way! Create, sort, and discover how we can give old things a new life.
  • Book: The Life of a little Cardboard Box by Suzanne Fossey

Dec. 2nd or Dec. 9th

  • Topic: Physics – “Gravity at Play”
  • Discover how things bounce, move, and fall! Explore the properties of different objects and find out what makes everything different.

Jan. 6th or Jan. 13th

  • Topic: Paleontology – “Dig In!”
  • Become a junior paleontologist! Learn about fossils and dinosaurs while getting your hands dirty.

  • Topic: Chemistry – “Mix it Up!”
  • Scoop, stir, and squish your way through colorful, hands-on experiments that show how chemistry is all around us.

  • Topic: Geology – “Rock On!”
  • Take a closer look at the world around us! Explore rocks and minerals, as well as how they can erode and change.

  • Topic: Art – “Creating with Color”
  • Get messy and let your imagination run wild. Discover how simple materials can make bright and beautiful creations.

Program Details

Ages: 3-6

When: Monthly

  • First Tuesday
  • Second Tuesday (session repeats)

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

  • Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m.

Registration Closes: One week before session date

Cost:

  • $15 (covers one child + one adult)
  • $15 (each additional participating child)
  • $5 (each additional adult)

What’s Included: Each TOTS Session includes 3 hands-on STEAM activities, a group storytime based on the month’s theme, admission to the museum and time to play and explore.

Policies and Procedures

All participants must be registered at least seven days prior to each program date. This would be the Tuesday before the Tuesday program. You will receive an email confirmation containing barcoded tickets. Bring them on the day of your program.

If you need to cancel a registration, you must contact Science Central at least seven days prior to the program date. Refunds are only given seven days prior to event day.

Walk-ins will not be permitted on the day of an event.

All programs are subject to change at Science Central’s discretion.

TOTS check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. each month. Check-in takes place at the admissions desk in Science Central, where you will show your barcoded ticket to a staff member to scan. You will then proceed to Nature Nook on the center’s Top Level for the program.

Science Central and the media frequently take photos/videos of visitors which may be used for future Science Central promotions or publicity. These photos may be used without your consent and without compensation. If you do not want your image used, please avoid photographers and inform them of your desire. As a visitor, you are welcome to take photos for non-commercial use at Science Central.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Second Tuesday session is a repeat of the First Tuesday session. This repeat session is offered in order to meet the demand for TOTS seats.

Yes. Parents/guardians must remain with their children for the duration of the program.

Yes. Infant siblings, under the supervision of a parent/guardian, may be present during this program. There is no added fee.

Yes. Science Central can accommodate daycare or school-sized groups at TOTS.

When you arrive, check-in at the front desk and receive your program schedule. Your schedule will indicate when you and your early learner will participate in activities, storytime, and museum exploration.
