POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Education Programs Internship position will involve aspects such as learning how to present labs and demonstrations on numerous STEM topics, operating the Science on a Sphere (SOS) exhibit and presenting current scientific data from NASA and NOAA, along with assisting with the planning, development, and execution of various Education Programs. Audiences include the general public, schools, scouts, teachers, special groups and others.
The Intern will report to the Education Director and the Education Programs & Technology Manager.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Able to easily navigate basic computer systems including Mac or Microsoft; good communication, public speaking and presentation skills; comfort with and interest in science and education; both team-oriented and self-directed; flexibility; problem-solver; professional in attitude and appearance; energetic; and enthusiastic.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a currently-enrolled community college, 4-year college or university student in good academic standing.
Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial but not required: Acting, Advanced Automatics and Robotics Technology; Biotechnology; Computer Science; Database Management & Administration; Education; Electronics & Computer Technology; Engineering; General Studies; Informatics; Information Technology Support; Liberal Arts; Server Administration; Software Development and Visual Communications.
SCHEDULE: Temporary intern position from the fall of 2023 through the spring of 2024. Typically 10-20 hours per week, 400 hours total. Schedule will be flexible, with days and time to be agreed upon by Education staff and the Intern.
WAGE: $14/hour.
