Executive Director

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Science Central, a hands-on science center, is currently hiring an Executive Director that has an established track record of building a collaborative and supportive culture. This individual will be responsible for leading all aspects of the operations of the organization with the direction and support of the Board of Directors.

Duties will include:

  • Strategy: Set the strategic direction of Science Central, with the input and support of the Board of Directors, to strengthen the organization for the future, grow the organization’s engagement within the community, and expand the organization’s reputation for hands-on science education.
  • Fundraising: Cultivate and expand Science Central’s relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other grant making organizations and leverage those relationships with the assistance of the Development Department.
  • Member/Audience Development: Ensure the resources and strategic direction that enable Science Central staff to create compelling and engaging exhibits and programming that builds long-term relationships across the community.
  • Community Engagement: Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including university scientists, educators, and other local organizations, to ensure Science Central remains a vital community resource. Expand audiences, advance strategic goals of increasing Belonging for all individuals and communities.
  • Financial & Operational Oversight: Ensure financial sustainability and efficient operations.

Qualifications:

  • A proven record of people management and responsibility delegation, including developing internal talent for advancement.
  • Experience setting and managing budgets, including the creation and development of departmental level budgets.
  • Basic STEM literacy and commitment to the mission of Science Central.
  • Ability to forge and cultivate strong relationships with local community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector, whether in museum management, educational organizations, board membership, or otherwise, with an emphasis on nonprofit financials.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing a physical location.
  • Willingness to be on-site in a non-remote environment.
  • Ability to represent Science Central in public forums.
  • A bachelor’s degree or applicable experience.
  • Prior experience with a science center or with science education preferred, but not required.

SCHEDULE: Full-time, schedule will include weekdays, and occasional weekends and evenings for meetings or special events

SALARY: $100,000 to $115,000; non-exempt position; with full benefits including medical, dental, vision, etc. and paid time off.
