Disability Days


Disability Days is Science Central's program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This programming is provided free of charge to those individuals, along with their caretakers.

Disability Days feature demonstrations and hands-on tabletop activities. Attendees may also explore Science Central, with the following modifications in place:

  • Lower ambient sound levels
  • Increased light in areas that are usually dark
  • Access to listening devices
  • Less-crowded environment
  • Extra staff on hand
  • Additional demonstrations with extra tactile stimulation
  • Access to a private changing table
  • Access to a sensory room
  • Face shields (limited quantities)

"Sound Science" -- It’s time for good vibrations! Investigate different sounds and how our ears help us understand the many sounds we hear!

"Take Flight" -- Celebrate birds and learn about conservation with Science Central on National Audubon Day!

"Living in Space" -- How do astronauts survive in space? What do they do when things go wrong? Play a game to discover how astronauts think!

"Mosquito Day" -- Don't swat that bug away just yet! Learn about those pesky little insects and how scientists think they can help our planet.

"National Crush Day" -- Why is recycling so important? How can we use air to crush a can? Find out the answers to these questions!

Saturday, October 15

"Mad Science Day"/"National Mushroom Day" -- Encounter dead things as we discover the wonderful world of decomposers!

Tuesday, November 15

"It's Shocking!" -- Zap your friends and family with static electricity, and see a pickle light up!

Saturday, December 10

"National Nobel Day" -- Dive into the work of some of the scientists who have earned the Nobel Prize. Discover how their work has changed how we see and experience our world.

 

To attend a Disability Day, you must register for tickets. Registration for 2022 sessions will open soon. Walk-up tickets are not available the day of a session.
