Policies and Procedures

You must register online 1 week prior to the start of a camp. You will receive an email confirmation after registering.

The deadline to make changes to your registration or cancel a registration is 14 days prior to the event. No additions, subtractions, or refunds can be made after that time. A full refund will be issued if the registration is cancelled at least 14 days prior to the event. To make changes or cancel your registration, contact the Registrar at registrar@sciencecentral.org.

An EMA form must be filled out for each registered camper. This form is where you will provide emergency contact information as well as list any medical issues and/or allergies that we should be aware of to provide the best experience for your camper. This form must be filled out for each camp season (Spring Break, Summer, and Winter.)

This form is only completed online and submitted electronically, at least 7 days prior to your camp start date. You will receive information on how to access the form in your confirmation email.

In the interests of safety, campers will not be allowed to stay for camp if they do not have a completed EMA form.

Campers and their adults are required to read and sign the Camper Behavior Contract, which outlines Science Central’s expectations for all campers during their time at the center. The Camper Behavior Contract can be found here.

Camp drop-off begins 30 minutes prior to a camp’s start time. Sign-in is inside Science Central, so individuals dropping off campers must come in with their campers. Every day at sign-in, you will sign in your camper, then provide us with the name of the person expected to pick up your camper at the end of the day. You may designate authorized people to pick up your children on your child’s EMA form.

After your camper is signed in, they will get a wristband for the day, put their lunch in their classroom, and then go explore the exhibit floor with other campers and staff until morning orientation.

Casual dress is appropriate. Consider that some activities are messy and some will take place outside. For spring and winter camps, ensure that your camper has a coat, and any other desired cold-weather gear, in case we go outside. During summer camp, sunscreen should be applied in the morning prior to camp.

Children must be toilet trained to attend camp. If an accident occurs during camp, a camper’s adult will be contacted to outfit them with new clothes.

If your camper’s behavior disrupts other campers and the overall camp experience, the Camp Director will speak with your child privately. A camper’s adult will only be contacted if the situation becomes unmanageable, and only in an extreme situation will you be asked to remove your child. In the unlikely event that a camper is dismissed from camp due to behavior, no refund will be issued.

Science Central provides one snack in the morning for campers. Campers must bring their own lunch. Send a non-perishable sack lunch with your camper. Refrigeration and microwaving is not available.

If your child has any dietary restrictions, make sure to notify us on the EMA form. Meeting special dietary snack needs is the responsibility of the camper’s adult, however we will provide a peanut-free table for campers with peanut allergies.

Camp sign-out begins 15 minutes prior to the camp’s stated end time and runs to 30 minutes after the end time. The sign-out station is inside Science Central, so individuals picking up campers must come in to retrieve their campers. Only approved individuals (those listed on the EMA) may pick up campers. All individuals picking up campers are required to sign a sign-out sheet with the Camp Director before they are able to retrieve their campers.

If you are more than 15 minutes late to pick up your camper, you will be charged $15 for every 5 minutes past pick-up time, based on our clock. If you are more than one hour late to pick up your child, and we are unable to reach you, or other individuals listed on the EMA, the Fort Wayne Police Department will be notified.

An inherent risk of exposure to the virus that causes COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By coming to Science Central, you acknowledge the contagious nature of the virus and assume all risks related to COVID-19.
