Amoebas, crabs, willow trees, elephants, whales and people all look different on the outside, but inside, billions and billions of molecules interact in similar ways to carry out common life functions—moving, sensing, defending and reproducing. Likewise, the variety of different molecules found in living things is vast, but these molecules are all based on combinations of only 25 different atoms. In Marvelous Molecules: The Secret of Life, a series of exhibit stations, computer interactives, and hands-on models, invite visitors to explore how and why these different interactions happen by breaking life down into smaller and smaller parts and revealing the similarities and differences among life-forms in this world. The exhibition was developed by the New York Hall of Science.
